Having Windows7 myself, i hate it.  That said, its working for me.  Make sure you are downloading to default locations - should be Program Files (x86).  Right click on the whole folder if you have to and give every possible permission to all types of users.  Then always click on the triplea application icon to start.

IF you are trying to run in SVN, then you shouldn't ever download anything... just rightclick on the workspace folder and choose 'update' to load the most current version of the engine.
'thats the way it is' makes it neither desireable nor inevitable

I've got windows xp, windows vista, and windows 7, (and linux mint), and it runs fine on all 4 of those.

no need to give it extra permissions.

for the zip version, you just download it, and then EXTRACT the entire thing
you can not try running the .exe until AFTER you have unzipped the whole folder to somewhere (does not really matter where.... i usually put it on the desktop)

for the .exe installer version, just download it, then run it, and it does the rest


it could be that the one you are downloading is corrupted in some way (ie: either my connection sucked when i uploaded it, or your connection sucked when you downloaded it), but i doubt it because noone else is experiencing a problem with it



Also, zim, did you figure out the consumes thing yet?  cus it works for me, but if you still have a bug then you really need to provide proof ASAP

It was the portable zip on the link above. If we don't have to compile anything or run the Java through Eclipse then how do I launch it with my Mac?

ps: I'm re-downloading it now just in case a file got lost or something, but I highly doubt that.

(like, can you open a map and continue playing the map, even though you have these errors?)

Yup, seems to run fine otherwise, I just disabled sound in the engine pref screen and they went away.

I found out something interesting regarding the Centers not found error discovered by a couple of us in this thread. Unless there is something painfully obvious that I'm missing about what Wisconsin means by "maps finalized folder", there is something wrong that even your awesome new utilities can't seem to fix...

... I discovered that if I removed the first territory name in the game.xml an error pops up saying it can't find that one single territory. When I copy past that line back into the xml, the can't find centers warning pops up in after pressing local PLAY... "No data of type centres for territory:" then each territory name times 200 territories I have.

The centers file is in the right spot, but is this happening maybe because there are some empty non-territory spaces on the map which haven't been named?

I fully traced out a river, and some lakes but then decided against having any navy for it (at least initially). If this is the case, then a warning more useful should pop up to guide us, like "Space on map not assigned to polygon/without center/name". Or it should be made more clear in the map making guide that all spaces in the map image need to be assigned to a territory/seazone/impassible or whatever.

This is my hunch but it sure would be nice to have someone help out with this or I will give up like the OP in the thread linked above.

is the problem occurring during running one of the map making utilities?  if so, which one, and what is the error?

is the problem occurring when you try to run your map from triplea (like a normal, working map)?  and if so, what is the error message?


centers.txt is a very simple file, you can even edit it by hand.  all it contains is the name of the territory, followed by its center point.

when you load a game up in triplea, it looks for each territory listed in the xml maps section, and then looks for a center, polgyon, and placement point, for each of those territories.

you can have territories in your centers that are not used by the xml, but you can not have territories in your xml that are not in the centers.  also, you can have spaces in your map that are not territories (and therefore not listed in the xml or the centers)


as for a "finalized map folder", you can compare your folder with any other working triplea map folder to see if you are following the right format (ie: the location of each file)

from googling your sound related error, it seems that Mac OS and Unix/Linux can not handle having more than 32 sounds in memory (even if they are not all being played at the same time)

score 1 for windows, and -1 for me having to waste my time rewriting a ton of shit

anyway, thanks for discovering this.... limitation

First of all, I know without a doubt that place.txt, polygons.txt and centers.txt are all in the right spots and are filled correctly.

Second, when I start up the game from terminal, these errors pop up in the terminal:

for when i try to play test my new map, which is listed in the Select a Game screen, and I spent over an hour parsing through and eliminating a bunch of XML errors when i tried to run it initially the other day. Those are now all gone and all that happens when I hit play is the 2nd screenshot depicting the "Warning" above.

Thanks for clarifying that it has nothing to do with my map making skills per se (re: empty zones).

This is problem with MacOS only, and it is only a warning.  Pay no attention to these lines.  Apple will eventually fix it.

I've updated the prerelease (again), so please redownload it.

Updates include some bug fixes and a caching mechanism that will only attempt to keep the last 24 sounds in memory, and no more than that.


@ Cleisthenis, and anyone with a mac computer,
Can you please try the updated version, and turn on all sounds again (pact of steel is a good map to test on), and see if you get any errors or have any problems.
You may have to put it to AI and let it run for a while to make sure all sounds get loaded, because they are now only loaded right before they are used.

Just finished downloading the latest update. All those sound errors are gone, and it seems to be working properly.

EDIT: Actually all the maps seems to have a half second or so of what I can only call digital garbled-goop that is audible when the start game siren plays. No errors in the log, I'm gonna do some testing to see if I enable sound mid-game if that always starts with the first sound played or if it seems to be inherent in the start game sound.

for the .exe installer version, just download it, then run it, and it does the rest


This was what I did do and it worked before for like a dozen versions and on my laptop but it won't work on my desktop so I know it is my issue.  My issue is with the installer extracting the triplea.exe file.  When I copied the entire triplea 1.6.1.3 to my portable hard drive and then launched the exe file from there it worked again on my laptop so when I get home later tonight I plan on simply moving this file right next to the 1.6.1.2 folder and putting a shortcut on my desktop and I am fairly confident it will run on my desktop.

I just want to make sure my issue is logged cause when you release it maybe 99% chance it works for everyone OR there may be a few of us who have a certain computer figuration that stalls at that point.  Again downloading the installer with java was NOT the problem, running the installer was the problem.

I will update my results w/in 24 hours.  Thanks for the hard work Veq.

I'm sure it will, it worked on my Lenova thinkpad using Windows XP, however my desktop is running Windows 7 and is a Gateway at 2.6 gh pentium dual core.  I'm sure it has to do with my computer settings or some such since my laptop runs it fine, so maybe anyone with a desktop running Windows 7 try to download and report back using the installer.

Ok must be my machine.  I am getting the dreaded BSoD (Blue Screen of Death) so I am working on that issue first.  I did my work around and simply used the installer on my laptop then moved the 1.6.1.3 folder to my portable drive, then hooked that drive up to my desktop, moved that folder to the appropriate C drive on my desktop and then placed the shortcut on my desktop in windows and it works fine now.

I'll have to figure out what the issue is with my desktop then.
